Evaluation of My Peer Reviews
What specific elements of the film opening did you like? |
What specific
elements of the film opening did you dislike? |
Did this look like a
movie opener and did it make you want to know what happens next? Explain. |
Was there anything
that left you confused? (be specific) |
What suggestions do
you have to make this movie opener better? |
I like that the
camera quality is good and it shows his real life. |
I disliked how it was
difficult to hear the scene in the classroom. |
It did look like a
movie opener. The subtitles signified that this was "just the
beginning" and then left me to wonder what his college career would be
like. |
I was only confused
when the Broncos coach was also the athletic trainer. |
I would not change
anything about it. |
The music, acting,
and story. |
That there wasn't a
narrator instead of subtitles. |
It did look like a
movie opener, that allowed for a lot to happen next. |
No. |
Narrator, voice over
dub, with subtitles if you really want them. |
The tracking/pan shot
at the beginning was so technical that it made me want to see more of the
camerawork. The acting was great and the story displayed had me wanting more.
|
The slowed-down
portions of the film with text imposed on the shot served to affect the
pacing of the film and I rather they were all dictated to the front or back
of the opener. The mixing of the music also muffled dialogue. |
Yes. The competent
acting and plot of the story kept me intrigued throughout. The comedic tone
of the work also made the experience enjoyable and made me want more. |
The only thing that
left me confused was what 'Cuba' was doing while sitting in the dugout. It
seemed to be some kind of machine to relax muscle but it lacked an
explanation. |
I would pitch the
vocals over the effects in a more palatable way, rewrite the explanatory text
and put it either in the beginning or end, and explain the device Cuba used
through dialogue. |
I liked the different
shots and the transitions. |
I disliked that it
felt like the end of a move. |
In a way no because
it almost made me feel like we had already watched the movie about his hard
work to get to where he did, not that it was picking up when he stared the
new career. |
I was confused about
if it was the end of a story line. |
Its also a bit boring
and sounds sad when it isn't something that is sad. |
I liked the acting
and some of the camera work was good as well. Sound effects that were added
also were good. |
I felt as if the
baseball batting scene went on for too long and was quite dull. |
It does look like a
movie opener and I would want to know what happens next. I felt as if it
built up the plot well enough to be interested in watching more. |
The plot was very
clear and I liked that. I was not left confused in any way. |
I would add a voice
over instead of just the text that was on it. Also I would fix the lighting
in the one scene entering the classroom. |
I like the beginning
elements with the introductions. |
I didn't like the
cuts in between, however, it is very hard to tell where this film would end
up. |
It explains it all
within the film, so not really. |
Just the storyline
however its not to confusing. |
Just make sure the
transitions are better. |
I like that they used
an actual class for the class and an actual school baseball field for the school
baseball field, it makes it seem more natural obviously because it is
legitimately the setting for what they want. |
Subtitles grammatical
errors. |
Yes, and yes, left a
lot of stuff able to happen, didn't feel finished enough. |
No. |
Fixing errors. |
I liked the editing
like the words that show up plus the overall idea of the film |
the part of hitting
was long and probably should be cut down a little |
It was pretty good I
liked the idea of a sports movie cause their is not a surplus of these so I
think I would watch more |
No was pretty
straight forward |
Just slim down the
batting part and add some other elements |
I like how they made
it seem that it was a day in the life. It kept me interested. |
They could have used
better transitions. |
This film opener
liked like more of a documentary or TV episode than a film. Regardless, I
would like to know what happens next. |
No, I understood that
it was a day in the life of a future D1 baseball player. |
They could have used
better transition as well as better transitions when they put words on the
screen. |
I liked the central
idea of the film and the actors did do a good job |
I disliked the wind
noises in the outdoor clips and the background noises during his signing |
It did not look like
a movie opener, more like a finisher but yes it seemed intriguing as to what
is next |
I was confused where
he was signing to because as he was saying where, a strange noise
interrupted. |
Fix the sounds and
make it more clear that it is a movie opener. |
If yall edited the
sound of the bell ringing when he walked into class, that was kind of raw.
Never actually seen Brett hold a bat, very surprised. I like the transition
from a classroom to a field. The camera clicking sounds and then cutting to
an almost empty auditorium was also hilarious. |
Grammar in the
subtitles. Also...did Uriel say he has just the thing for him and then tap a
pencil on his leg? Extremely funny, but made no sense. |
I don't really see
there being a climax to this movie. Usually sports films have some sort of
center conflict that the movie revolves around and spends time overcoming. If
this is just the opening of the movie, what is he going to be doing for the
next hour and a half? Practicing? Tomato tomato tomato! |
No. |
End it with him
getting injured or something. Something that makes it so that there's an
actual struggle or plot point that this movie can have a climax to, because
it seems like it's just a movie about a kid that trains a lot while in
school. Give him a challenge to overcome or a larger goal to reach or
something. |
I liked the intro
text fonts/transition, the sound effects, the music, the props, and the
acting was alright. |
The text font of the
captions. |
I looked like a
documentary opener and it did want to know what happens next. I was curious
on what the character was going to achieve next. |
Where are the rest of
the people in a school. |
Needed more baseball
clips. |
I liked when the
camera turned to audience in the auditorium, and there were two people. |
I was hard to hear
what he was saying at one point. |
It does look like a
movie opener, setting up the baseball player's future. |
No I was not
confused. |
I don't have any
suggestions. |
There was music in
the beginning. Body shots are consistent and there are captions to narrate
the story for the viewers to understand what's happening |
There was a bit of
weird editing to the transition of the main character practicing and him
getting hurt. The caption is a bit too apparent and it could be adjusted to
blend better. |
Yes and no, it has
the potential to be a movie opener but the plot is basically revealed at the
end of the opener where Cuba became a D1 player. |
How did the player
get hurt? Why was there only two people in the chairs? How were they allow to
announce their acceptance in the auditorium? |
Make it so viewers
are curious if Cuba is accepted or not. Try not to drag out the caption and
the Cuba practicing his hits scene. |
The music and
on-screen text did a good-job conveying a theme. |
The actors could have
spoke up a little more. |
While it does
resemble a movie opener, saying I would be enticed to see the rest wouldnt be
entirely true. |
Not really, as it
didn't leave much to be confused about. |
Maybe take a better
round of BP to drive home the point that Cuba is a star. |
I liked that the plot
was easy to follow and we could easily tell what was happening. |
I disliked that Kevin
was in two consecutive scenes. It was slightly confusing because Brett had
just seen him and then they were together in class again. |
This did not really
look like a movie opener. I was left wondering what was going to happen in
Brett's future but it felt more like the end of a story. This might have been
because of the music choice. |
I would use different
actors for the different characters because it got a little confusing if
Uriel was supposed to be playing the same character or not. |
I would have someone
read the text at the bottom so the viewer could focus on what is happening in
the scene rather than reading the text. |
- I thought the
camera work was very okay |
- The baseball shot
went on for too long |
This did look like a
movie opener. It did not make me want to know what happens next due to the
nature of the type of film they created. |
No. |
Get rid of the text
and make it a voice-over. |

Blog Post 2- Editing 2
In our second week of editing, the group and I tried to come up with ideas that would make our film better. Since we are filming a documentary, we decided to add subtitles into the film to guide the viewers throughout the video and give them a sense of what is going on. In addition, we continued to edit the inspirational music in the background to match the mood of the scenes. In this second week, there wasn't as much arguing as there was in our first week. Everything went pretty smooth for our first draft of the movie opener. Hence, we didn't spend much time editing as we thought it was a respectable first draft.
Blog Post 1- Beginning to Edit
In the editing process, Israel Ramirez put together all of the filming that we did in order to show the day in a life of future star Brett Hayes. This was very important as we needed to show a quick recap of Brett's high school experience and his future as a D1 baseball player. During the first week, Israel was able to edit different sounds into the film. To begin with, the background music was very inspirational as it highlighted the journey that Brett has to go through. In addition, other various sound effects were added like the bell ringing to fill up the silence in the background. This process took a long time as it was difficult to edit the way we wanted to as we all had different visions in mind. However, with time the group was able to agree on the same thing.
Blog Post 2- Filming 2
In this session, Brett Hayes is meeting with his new coach who will lead him through his college career. We chose this location to show how he was a Trojan before becoming a Bronco. In addition, this meeting after the signing shows Brett's end of a journey and the start of a new one which would leave the audience wondering what is next in his career.
